Requirements

  • Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and inspection of underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures, and equipment on de-energized and grounded overhead/underground facilities under direct/immediate supervision
  • Demonstrate ability to perform ground person duties under immediate/direct supervision
  • Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing, and removing poles, towers, and structures
  • After D-100 or equivalent: Operate company equipment (except digger/derricks and aerial lifts), climb poles/ladders/structures, work on de-energized conductors/equipment; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260 volts under direct supervision
  • After D-200 or equivalent: Operate digger/derrick and aerial devices under immediate supervision; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification
  • Assemble and install line material/hardware under direct/immediate supervision; use/store hand lines, tie knots, basic knowledge of ropes/rigging; splice primary/secondary overhead wires using proper tools
  • After D-200 or equivalent: Under direct supervision, operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, sectionalizing devices; progress from direct to immediate/general supervision
  • After D-300 or equivalent: Test de-energized overhead lines/equipment, install/remove personal protective grounds under immediate supervision
  • Inspect/maintain tools, equipment, work area safely; identify/inspect/use/maintain rubber gloves/sleeves (PIPE), insulating blankets/hoses/covers (IPE)
  • Inspect, maintain, organize, operate, stock company vehicles/equipment/tools; perform housekeeping; report irregularities
  • Safely execute pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue as training completed
  • Protect/control work area: set/remove barricades, flags, signs, cones
  • Maintain accurate records/reports; read/record kilowatt-hour meter readings; complete/submit Monthly Apprentice Cards
  • Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned
  • Builds upon skills/abilities/knowledge from Line Mechanic B (or equivalent)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and competent inspection of underground/overhead facilities under supervision
  • Perform ground person duties under supervision
  • Load/unload/handle/maintain/install/remove poles, towers, structures
  • Operate equipment, climb structures, work on de-energized/energized (up to 260V) conductors per training milestones (D-100/D-200)
  • Assemble/install line material/hardware; use ropes/rigging; splice wires
  • Operate sectionalizing devices under supervision per D-200
  • Test lines/install/remove grounds per D-300 under supervision
  • Inspect/maintain tools/equipment/work area; manage PPE (PIPE/IPE)
  • Maintain vehicles/tools; housekeeping; report issues
  • Execute rescues as trained
  • Set/remove traffic control devices
  • Maintain records/reports; read meters; submit apprentice cards
  • Perform assigned similar/less skilled work
