Requirements

  • Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and inspection of underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures, and equipment on de-energized and grounded overhead/underground facilities under direct or immediate supervision
  • Demonstrate ability to perform ground person duties under immediate or direct supervision
  • Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing, and removing poles, towers, and structures
  • After D-100 or equivalent: Demonstrate ability to operate Company equipment (except digger/derricks and aerial lifts), climb poles/ladders/structures, work on de-energized conductors/equipment; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260 volts under direct supervision
  • After D-200 or equivalent: Operate digger/derrick and aerial devices under immediate supervision; work on energized conductors/equipment up to 260 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification; operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, sectionalizing devices, refuse line/transformer devices under direct supervision (progressing to immediate/general as skills dictate)
  • After D-300 or equivalent: Test de-energized overhead lines/equipment, install/remove personal protective grounds under immediate supervision
  • Assemble and install line material/hardware under direct/immediate supervision
  • Use/store hand lines, tie knots, basic knowledge of ropes/rigging equipment inspection/use
  • Splice primary/secondary overhead wires using proper tools/hardware (including crimping/compression)
  • Safely execute pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue as training completed
  • Inspect/maintain tools, equipment, work area safely; identify/inspect/use/maintain rubber gloves/sleeves (PIPE), insulating blankets/hoses/covers (IPE)
  • Inspect/maintain/organize/operate/stock company vehicles/equipment/tools
  • Perform housekeeping duties; report irregularities/abnormal conditions
  • Protect/control work area: set/remove barricades/flags/signs/cones
  • Maintain accurate records/submit reports
  • Read/record information/readings on analog/digital kWh meters
  • Complete/submit Monthly Apprentice Cards
