Requirements

Candidates should have a strong understanding of ASC 842 lease accounting standards, including right of use assets, lease liabilities, tenant improvement allowances, non-lease components, rent accruals, and lease-associated expenses. Experience with GAAP, month-end close duties, reconciliations, journal entries, and maintaining internal controls is essential. Familiarity with retail leases for stores, sales offices, and corporate facilities is required. The role also requires the ability to analyze accounting records, explain variances, and prepare financial reports and schedules for SEC filings.

Responsibilities

The Lease Accountant will be responsible for preparing monthly and quarterly General Ledger entries and reconciliations, performing monthly account analysis, and analyzing landlord billings for CAM, marketing, taxes, and insurance. They will also create sales statements for landlords, coordinate internal review processes, assist with rent payment file preparation, and provide financial planning estimates for lease expenses. Additionally, the role involves supporting ad-hoc requests from finance and Real Estate teams, reviewing new leases and renewals, maintaining SOX compliance, and contributing to the continuous improvement of accounting processes.
