Requirements

  • Knowledge of chemistry principles and practices including analysis, evaluation, and waste processing protocols
  • Ability to perform proper analysis and present findings in a concise format
  • Skills in addressing difficult situations constructively, utilizing computer technology for communication, data gathering, and reporting, negotiation, and problem solving
  • Ability to build rapport with associates and managers; detail-oriented with high accuracy and ability to detect inconsistencies in data
  • Awareness of quality management standards, including ISO and NELAC standards
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of RCRA, TSCA, and applicable state regulations
  • Superior knowledge of software packages related to waste streams and reporting
  • A candidate with no degree must have 3 years of relevant work experience in waste disposal, chemistry, or a related field (typically less than 1 year for those with degree implied)

Responsibilities

  • Performs preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for organic and inorganic constituents using approved EPA test methods, SOPs, and Work Instructions
  • Participates in the generation of SOPs and Work Instructions under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager
  • Prepares samples for laboratory equipment
  • Utilizes and understands essential functions for instrument sequencing and data processing (including basic instrument maintenance and repairs, analytical standard preparations, and maintaining required documentation accurately)
  • Validates methods for testing organics and inorganics using various processes and instrumentation
  • Performs satisfactory Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) prior to data reporting for any method and maintains annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC) for each method
  • Identifies chemical content of materials and conducts research on appropriate treatment studies
  • Provides technical knowledge to develop formulas, enhance or create processes and methods for solving technical problems
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment
  • Maintains familiarity with quality control measures and calculations for applicable methods
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
