Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a certificate or associate degree program in Process Control and Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of control systems and instrumentation concepts
  • Strong interest in industrial automation and process optimization
  • Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and work in field conditions
  • Ability to take initiative, demonstrate a positive attitude with an eagerness to learn, and be adaptable
  • Ability to apply basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and/or advanced math, algebra, and/or statistical methods
  • Ability to communicate, exchange written and verbal information and/or instructions
  • Ability to contribute critical thinking skills, work well in teams, have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Sedentary work - exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally

Responsibilities

  • Assist in routine maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems including Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Support hardware diagnostics (e.g., fault identification, battery checks, basic wiring inspections)
  • Participate in software updates and backups for control systems
  • Help perform preventive maintenance tasks such as climate control inspections and filter replacements
  • Shadow technicians during after-hours system support and emergency response scenarios
  • Aid in documentation and archiving of control system programs and configurations
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and best practices
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to understand control narratives and system logic
  • Learn to interpret and modify graphics and control logic under supervision
  • Observe and assist with project planning and implementation involving control system upgrades or expansions
