Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a certificate or associate degree program in Process Control and Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a related field
- Basic understanding of control systems and instrumentation concepts
- Strong interest in industrial automation and process optimization
- Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to follow safety protocols and work in field conditions
- Ability to take initiative, demonstrate a positive attitude with an eagerness to learn, and be adaptable
- Ability to apply basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and/or advanced math, algebra, and/or statistical methods
- Ability to communicate, exchange written and verbal information and/or instructions
- Ability to contribute critical thinking skills, work well in teams, have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and strong verbal and written communication skills
- Sedentary work - exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally
Responsibilities
- Assist in routine maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems including Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
- Support hardware diagnostics (e.g., fault identification, battery checks, basic wiring inspections)
- Participate in software updates and backups for control systems
- Help perform preventive maintenance tasks such as climate control inspections and filter replacements
- Shadow technicians during after-hours system support and emergency response scenarios
- Aid in documentation and archiving of control system programs and configurations
- Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and best practices
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to understand control narratives and system logic
- Learn to interpret and modify graphics and control logic under supervision
- Observe and assist with project planning and implementation involving control system upgrades or expansions
