Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Controls (no experience required); or Certificate in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation or equivalent (no experience required); or without degree, 2 years experience in addition to HS diploma or GED
  • Job experience relative to this position: Steel mills, paper mills, nuclear, nuclear navy service, chemical, oil refinery, power plant, or similar industry
  • Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MAS)
  • Must possess the appropriate State driver's license
  • Residency within 1 hour drive under normal conditions to Turk Power Plant

Responsibilities

  • Assist in analysis, detection, and repair of defects in interlock and control systems, electronic devices, solid state equipment, computers, solid state communication systems, instruments (e.g., meters, gauges, process control valves), electrohydraulic turbine control, Boiler Control Systems, Burner management systems, fuel handling systems (gas & coal), chemical analyses, water quality instrumentation, CEMS, EPA discharge monitoring equipment, and calculations related to power plant equipment operating efficiency
  • Assist in engineering studies and calculations related to operating efficiency of power plant equipment and assist engineers in performing other technical services
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Obtain basic working knowledge to locate, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair defects in control systems involving electrical, solid state electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic components, tubing, using diagrams and process control knowledge, with assistance from journeyman or supervision
  • Learn to install, calibrate, and maintain control loops with assistance from journeyman and/or supervision
  • Assist with performing functions to place in or remove from service instrument and control systems undergoing study, tests, or adjustments
  • Obtain basic working knowledge of PLC and DCS Control Systems, Force Contacts, locate hardware I/O addresses, and learn basic programming logic with assistance
  • Assist in preparing data for engineering procedures, specifications, bills of material, and requisitions for equipment installation, maintenance, and operation
  • Assist with setting up and connecting test devices for tests on equipment such as boilers, turbines, generators, and other power plant equipment; perform or assist in such tests
  • Learn to operate and maintain equipment to obtain temperatures, levels, pressures, and flows accurately; analyze data and calculate test results using handbooks, manuals, and references
  • Learn to compile and record data relating to tests and investigations; prepare graphs, curves, and reports
  • Assist with maintaining analyzing equipment to ensure accurate information for plant operations
  • Develop basic knowledge of industrial processes and systems
