Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
  • Considerable knowledge to perform a broad range of tasks under limited supervision in diverse dialysis modalities (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies, apheresis, ultrafiltration)
  • Ability to provide supervision and direction to Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff
  • Ability to direct and educate ICU staff for CRRT
  • High-level thinking skills to adjust patient schedules based on labs, MD orders, or patient assessments
  • Ability to assess patients’ responses to treatment, make adjustments/modifications, and communicate with physicians, Inpatient Program Manager, hospital primary nurse, etc
  • Proficiency in operating dialysis/apheresis equipment safely, including alarm testing, calibration, dialysate testing, functional testing, disinfection, and minor troubleshooting
  • Ability to accurately document treatment information in ACES and hospital records
  • Knowledge of intradialytic transfusions, including monitoring, documentation, and notification of adverse reactions
  • Participation in QAI activities, staff meetings, training, and orientation

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in multiple modalities (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, apheresis) in inpatient settings per company and hospital policies
  • Supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff; direct and educate ICU staff for CRRT
  • Deliver safe, effective, timely, and efficient care to assigned patients, including appropriate treatment techniques as prescribed
  • Assess patients’ responses to therapy, adjust treatment plans as indicated by credentialed physicians, and communicate issues/concerns
  • Give organized, concise shift reports and apply high-level thinking to schedule patients based on critical needs
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document intradialytic transfusions, notifying physicians and blood suppliers of adverse reactions
  • Collaborate and communicate with physicians, healthcare team, FMS facility nursing staff, and hospital personnel to coordinate patient care plans
  • Accurately document all treatment information in patient records (ACES) and hospital records
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surfaces, chairs, equipment, and areas between treatments
  • Perform pre-treatment tasks: prepare for dialysis, conduct machine alarm testing, initiate Solution Delivery System if applicable
  • Operate equipment safely, utilize supplies efficiently, and perform safety tests, calibration, dialysate testing, and disinfection on machines
  • Act as subject matter expert to hospital staff for dialysis-related patient/equipment complications
  • Report all new/unusual incidents, complaints, or problems per Adverse Event Report requirements
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, orientation, and QAI activities
