Requirements
- Knowledge of monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, MMS, Service Now, JIRA, Dynatrace, Splunk)
- Knowledge of monitoring metrics and key performance indicators (e.g., availability, MTBF, MTTR, SLIs, SLOs like request latency, availability, error rates, saturation)
- Knowledge of distributed tracing and alerting logic
- Awareness of metrics used to monitor software or system performance, infrastructure and application metrics, and types of alerts generated by monitoring tools
- Knowledge of disaster recovery procedures, processes, and enterprise disaster recovery systems
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux performance optimization tuning
- Knowledge of Java/NodeJS/Tomcat/Apache tuning and optimization
- Knowledge of chaos tools to measure site reliability (e.g., probability of failure, frequency of failure)
Responsibilities
- Incident triage, escalation, and resolution: Triage site-impacting production issues by quantifying impact, severity, and urgency; analyze systems for quick remediation; engage right teams for recovery (reduce MTTE); focus on immediate restoration (reduce MTTR) of large-scale enterprise systems
- Alert, monitoring, log analysis: Detect and analyze monitoring graphs and alerts to identify systems causing production impacts using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, MMS, Service Now, JIRA, Dynatrace, Splunk (reduce MTTD)
- Enhance alerting solutions: Design and implement JavaScript for integration of alerting tools with service API endpoints using tools like ServiceNow, Spotlight, Splunk, xMatters
- Monitor current performance data to ensure adherence to defined SLOs and SLIs for simple applications/systems
- Work with business partners to identify and document critical applications for disaster recovery planning
- Monitor site reliability conditions and new reliability requirements
- Work on Product Enrichment and Content Services projects at Walmart: Develop enterprise monitoring and utilize tooling software solutions such as Grafana, Splunk to improve visibility, proactively detect issues, and restore system availability
- Develop tools and support: Design and develop solutions for widespread internal communications for cloud applications support or workflows for infrastructure availability issues with various internal applications
