Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in a histotechnician program OR bachelor's or higher degree in chemical or biological sciences with 30 hours in biology and chemistry, plus one year of histology experience/training within past 5 years OR completion of at least nine months in histotechnician program
  • HTL (ASCP) certification required
  • Science-related degree preferred
  • 0-2 years of related experience
  • Pass post-offer criminal background check
  • Complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance, and security training within first 30 days of hire
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to use computer keyboard, communicate over telephone, read printed material, and perform repetitive hand motion
  • Communicating in a team setting
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral

Responsibilities

  • Perform histological preparations for tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors, including preparation of tissues, stained slides, microdissection, and supporting workflow tasks
  • Independently perform testing, reagent, and equipment preparation after training and competency
  • Participate in validations
  • Perform qualifications of reagents
  • Monitor and perform case management; ensure all cases processed within department TAT goals and investigate sample processing issues
  • Actively participate in EH&S initiatives such as safety audits
  • Participate in updating and creating Standard Operating Procedures
  • May serve as general supervisor (depending on education and experience) and perform competencies
  • Understand equipment and process troubleshooting
  • Document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications and escalate protocol deviations to supervisor
  • Provide general oversight of personnel and daily operations in the lab; provide guidance to new team members
