Position Overview

Ashby is seeking an experienced Engineering leader to join our growing team. As Co-Founder and VP of Engineering, I'm looking for an individual who has a proven track record in building exceptional products as an individual contributor, developing high-performing engineering teams, and establishing the cultural norms and processes for an entire engineering department. With Ashby doubling its engineering team in the next year, this role is crucial for thoughtfully scaling our department and maintaining our unique culture.

We are proud to have customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. Our growth and retention metrics are best-in-class, with tens of millions in ARR and over 100% year-over-year growth. We maintain very low churn and have a substantial runway.

Our engineering philosophy focuses on empowering engineers. We discard many industry norms, believing in the potential of engineers to excel when given the freedom and agency to do so. We prioritize creating an environment where engineers are involved in product specification, decision-making, and project breakdown, rather than being siloed into individual tickets.

What We're Building

We are building Ashby to address the shortcomings of traditional Talent Acquisition software. While recruiting teams have evolved their practices, the supporting software has often lagged. We aim to provide TA teams with intelligent, powerful tooling that automates tasks, provides crucial insights, and simplifies complex processes. Our goal is to create software that makes other departments envious of TA's capabilities.

Responsibilities

As the Head of Engineering in the Americas, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with the VP of Engineering and the counterpart in EMEA to scale our unique engineering culture.
  • Manage a remote team of 20 engineers and 2 Engineering Managers across various specializations (Product Engineers, Site Reliability Engineers, Design Engineers).
  • Grow the Americas engineering team to 40 engineers and 5-6 Engineering Managers over the next year.
  • Lead the definition and evolution of the culture and processes for the entire Engineering department.
  • Manage and mentor other leaders (Engineering Managers).

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building impressive products as an individual contributor.
  • Proven ability to build and develop a bench of amazing engineers.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing the cultural norms and processes of an entire Engineering department.
  • Experience managing managers and leading other leaders.
  • A passion for the craft of engineering and a commitment to staying up-to-date on technology. You should have been a great engineer yourself.
