A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required, with a CPA or CPA track being preferred. Candidates must possess over 4 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within nonprofit or charter school environments. Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups, are essential, as is a strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting. Experience with Workday ERP is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have an analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
The General Ledger Accountant will prepare and post accurate journal entries in accordance with GAAP and company policies. They will execute timely month-end and year-end close processes, maintain and manage the chart of accounts, and reconcile intercompany transactions. Key responsibilities include reconciling balance sheet accounts such as cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and liabilities. The role involves preparing monthly financial reports for stakeholders, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and preparing audit schedules to support annual independent audits. Additionally, the accountant will assist with federal and state compliance reporting, including Charter Board filings, IRS Form 990, and Single Audit submissions. Collaboration with AP, Payroll, and Grants teams for proper expense classification, and support for accounting system enhancements, process improvements, and internal controls are also key duties. Assisting in the development and updating of accounting policies and procedures is also part of the role.
