The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of systems design, progression loops, and live operations, with proficiency in creating clear, actionable design documents. Experience using data to inform design decisions, excellent communication and collaboration skills across disciplines, and a passion for sports games and competitive play are essential. A deep interest in UGC games/content like Roblox, Minecraft, or Fortnite is required. Bonus points are awarded for knowledge of American football rules, terminology, and fan culture, prior experience shipping features or whole games on Roblox or other UGC platforms, prior experience using Roblox Studio, prior experience in free-to-play game development or a background in economy design, and a degree in Game Design, Interactive Media, or a related field of study. Candidates must be able to commit to working hours between EST and PST.
The Game Designer will partner closely with artists, engineers, analysts, and product managers to design compelling gameplay systems, competitive features, and monetization strategies tailored to the unique player behaviour in sports simulation games. Responsibilities include designing new events tied to the NFL season or evolving gameplay to deepen progression and competitiveness, using data to guide iteration, designing and balancing core gameplay systems including player progression and rewards, and owning the design documentation. The role involves clearly communicating mechanics, flow, and rationale with other team members, using player data and telemetry to identify problems, validate hypotheses, and improve systems, participating in roadmap planning, and contributing ideas for game updates and live events tied to NFL milestones. Additionally, the Game Designer will iterate on game balance and tuning based on internal testing and player feedback, and playtest and deconstruct competitive titles to generate insights and design inspiration.
