Required qualifications include over 4 years of full stack development experience, strong proficiency in JavaScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and REST APIs, familiarity with CI/CD practices and Git workflows, and experience with cloud platforms like AWS. A solid understanding of accessibility best practices (WCAG, Section 508) and strong communication skills within Agile environments are also necessary. Prior experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs or federal agencies, familiarity with JSON Schema Form libraries, knowledge of VA.gov architecture, and experience with automated testing and 508 scanning tools are considered bonus qualifications.
The Full Stack Engineer will contribute to both front-end and back-end development for VA.gov, focusing on form-related services and features. Responsibilities include building reusable React components adhering to the VA Design System, implementing dynamic schema-based forms, managing data validation, and developing secure APIs for submission workflows. The role also involves modernizing legacy form infrastructure, optimizing user experience, and ensuring work is performant, testable, and compliant with 508 accessibility and security standards.
