Requirements

The ideal candidate possesses expert knowledge of WCAG 2.2 and WAI-ARIA 1.2, proficiency with screen readers like VoiceOver, JAWS, and NVDA, and experience with accessibility testing tools such as Axe and Google Lighthouse. They should have proven experience building user-centric and scalable UI frameworks and design systems, along with expert knowledge of modern web standards and front-end engineering tools including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Web Components, REST API, GraphQL, TypeScript, Node/NPM, and Responsive UI. A solid understanding of cloud technologies, end-to-end delivery of data-intensive SaaS products, localization and internationalization (i18n), and front-end frameworks like React/Next.js, Vue, Ember, or Lit is also required. Familiarity with CI/CD best practices, strong communication skills, and a passion for UX consistency, accessibility, and empathy for the end user are essential. Bonus points include familiarity with Section 508, EAA, and ADA, IAAP certifications, experience integrating aXe Core into CI/CD, conducting user testing with people with disabilities, and contributions to open-source accessibility projects.

Responsibilities

The Front-End Engineer, Accessibility Specialist will ensure accessibility compliance through UI development, testing, and code reviews, focusing on semantic HTML, ARIA roles, color contrast, keyboard navigation, legible UI text, accessible forms, and optimized screen reader announcements. They will conduct regular accessibility audits, provide expert guidance on accessibility inquiries, and collaborate cross-functionally with product design, UI engineering, backend engineers, product designers, and product managers. This role involves triaging and prioritizing accessibility issues based on severity and impact, maintaining comprehensive documentation, and writing tests to validate accessibility functionality.
