Position Overview
The Walt Disney Archives, established in 1970, collects, preserves, and makes available historical materials related to Walt Disney and the company he founded. This position will report to the Manager, Exhibitions.
Requirements
- Core Competencies: Exhibition, experiential, themed, and immersive design practices and techniques.
- Design Communication: Strong skills in reading, analyzing, interpreting, and creating floor plans, architectural, and technical drawings. Basic knowledge of algebra and geometry is required.
- Collaboration: Highly collaborative and confident, able to work closely with project teams to support guest experience goals.
- Software Proficiency: Understanding of current popular software workflows such as SketchUp, Revit, 3D Studio Max, AutoCAD, and similar software.
- Asset Handling: Knowledge of techniques and best practices for safe and proper packing and crating of assets for storage, shipments, installation/deinstallation, and mounting.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in exhibition design, graphic design, themed entertainment, museum studies, or engineering.
- Experience: At least 3 years of previous experience in exhibition design, themed entertainment design, graphic design, etc.
- Industry Awareness: Aware of current trends and latest technology in exhibitions, as well as themed, immersive, and experiential entertainment.
Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Manager, Exhibitions, the Exhibition Designer will:
- Conceive and design all components of exhibitions, including layout, fabrication of elements, color schemes, lighting, decorative case work, and interactives.
- Design exhibition graphics, including ancillary promotional materials such as pitch decks, marketing toolkits, logos, and exhibition installation guides.
- Design object transport solutions, such as crates, internal housing, trucking load plans, and mounts.
- Provide design and supervision of contractors engaged to fabricate exhibition components, exhibit technology, graphics, and other exhibition elements.
- Participate in installs/deinstalls of traveling exhibitions for both domestic and international venues.

Compensation & Benefits
- Hiring Range: $64,300 - $86,200 per year (North Hollywood, CA)
- Note: The actual base pay offered will consider internal equity, candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Additional Compensation: A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided.
