Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, environmental or industrial hygiene or comparable field and 5 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree in safety engineering, environmental or industrial hygiene or comparable field and 3 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience including the organization/implementation of facility-wide safety programs or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards
  • Demonstrated ability to determine training needs, organize and conduct training
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with senior management and large employee groups
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations
  • Excellent communication skills in a variety of media (PowerPoint charts, written reports & memoranda, and verbal)
  • Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance
  • Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards
  • Ability to work in laboratory setting, with loud noises, strong odors, warehouse, and hazardous/toxic materials
  • Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Administer the company’s Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Programs
  • Establish and oversee health and safety standards
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce safety policies and procedures in accordance with all local, state, federal regulations and company EHS program requirements
  • Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and codes and act as liaison to regulatory agency personnel
  • Manage the employee safety training program, including developing and delivering training curricula and driving/tracking employee participation
  • Specify the procurement and maintenance of safety equipment inventory to ensure that onsite personnel have adequate protection from workplace hazards
  • Review the procurement of chemicals and materials purchased for production, engineering, and R&D, including the maintenance of the library of SDS’s
  • Oversee emergency response activities and manage site’s emergency response team
  • Serve as Laser safety officer
  • Promote a strong safety culture at a Cal-OSHA VPP Star site through outreach initiatives as well as employee and management engagement
  • Manage contractor safety program
  • Manage site workers compensation program, incident investigation program, and oversee the EHS database implementation for the site
  • Manage the site’s ergonomics and biosafety programs
  • Conduct site audits for compliance with company global standards
  • Manage and maintain day-to-day EHS programs at the site, including new employee orientation, EHS management systems, and regulatory record keeping and reporting
  • Administer company compliance with regulatory permits. Prepare applications, interpret regulations and maintain written EHS programs as necessary
  • Collect safety metrics and conduct trend analysis
  • Provide oversight to safety committee
