Requirements

  • CDL permit (CDL-A permit) - required to be considered
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to read and write clearly in English
  • Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records
  • Ability to read at a distance close to the eyes and at arm’s length, with or without correction
  • Physical ability to perform medium to heavy work: climb into trailer, lift 50 lb. boxes frequently, lift up to 75 lb. boxes occasionally, move product on a 2-wheeler
  • Previous food distribution and frozen food handling preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist the driver in unloading product at customer locations according to customer invoices, Preferred Work Methods, and company policies
  • Develop and establish good relationships with customers by providing excellent, courteous service
  • Learn route on current bid
  • Assist in all aspects of route paperwork
  • Work safely by following SYGMA’s Preferred Work Methods
  • Attend CDL School when scheduled
  • Assist the driver in the pre-trip and coupling of equipment to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate
  • Assist with ensuring tandems are properly and safely locked out to meet weight requirements
  • Provide assistance in routing with map reading and giving directions
  • Help with situations involving low clearances (e.g., directing driver under low underpass)
  • Assist with delivery set up at customer locations, including all three compartments of the trailer
  • Assist driver in backing situations by watching for hazards and communicating via hand signals or verbal communication
  • Operate a two-wheeled dolly and pallet jack
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management
