Thorough understanding of Omnicare Long Term Care Pharmacy/Home Infusion Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual and internal pharmacy policies and procedures
Thorough knowledge of medication occurrence reporting process, drug recall surveillance and reporting
Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage during scheduled on-call rotation and as required by management

Responsibilities

Execute day-to-day operations in the pharmacy pertaining to workflow, production quotas, and deadlines
Ensure pharmacy compliance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy
Assist in ensuring compliance with all DEA policies and procedures (Omnicare or regulatory agency, whichever stricter)
Ensure compliance with all third-party payor contract rules and regulations
Maintain compliance with Omnicare SOPs, current controlled substance laws, SOX regulation, USP 797/795 for sterile/non-sterile compounding, and Omnicare purchasing and formulary initiatives
Supervise pharmacy production staff to ensure proper and timely order entry, workflow, security of the pharmacy area, and adherence to delivery schedules
Check for completeness and accuracy of all new and refill labels and orders
Check for content and accuracy of all drug packaging and labeling
Check for appropriateness of therapy through prospective drug utilization review (assessment for appropriateness of therapy, high risk medications, allergies, adverse indications or interactions, and other potentially adverse outcomes)
Remain informed of medication storage, stability, and administration requirements
Preparation and/or supervision of all sterile IV drug products or solutions and maintain all applicable required IV documentation and clinical monitoring and supervision of IV department colleagues
Assist in proper ordering, counting, handling, receiving, documentation, and storage of all controlled substances; assist in maintaining a perpetual inventory for schedule II drugs
Assist in proper maintenance of emergency kit dispensing including ekits and Omnicells
Clear workflow grid daily
Follow all applicable government regulations including HIPAA
Communicate ongoing issues to Pharmacy Management
Provide routine and emergency comprehensive and accurate drug screening, information, processing, and dispensing services for various drug distribution systems to the centers
