Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or technical discipline such as Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science or related field

Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement the plastic molding strategy for the Business Unit, scaling from R&D prototype designs to high cavitation molding processes
  • Work closely with Tooling Engineers and suppliers to optimize precision injection molding processes for high-quality plastic components with tight tolerances
  • Perform hands-on engineering, process validation, troubleshooting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams (R&D, operations, supply chain, quality, suppliers)
  • Advance strategic engineering objectives through molding activities, including capacity analysis for new molds and injection molding machines, and recommendations for future investment
  • Manage measurement system analysis, design control, equipment selection, process development, validation, FMEA, and Design of Experiments (DOEs)
  • Manage capital investment and execution in mold equipment, molds, and tooling
  • Partner with R&D, manufacturing quality, and suppliers on molding-related projects for new and existing products
  • Define Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) and Critical Process Parameters (CPPs)
  • Define molding process windows using Scientific Molding methodologies, DOE tools, and software
  • Develop relationships between key process input variables (KPIVs) and key process output variables (KPOVs) for plastic components
  • Work with suppliers to specify critical molding cell equipment (molds, machines, end-of-arm tooling, automation, assembly)
  • Oversee writing of specifications, design verification/validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) protocols and reports
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at equipment manufacturers per Abbott standards
  • Lead cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve molding issues
  • Apply knowledge of SOLIDWORKS CAD for 3D models and flow modeling
  • Apply expertise in process design, tooling/automation design, and procurement/qualification of new molds
  • Drive continuous improvement in mold lifecycle management, tool life measurement, and future investment planning
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, Quality, Compliance expectations, country regulations, and ISO standards while driving innovation and efficiency
