  • ABP board-certified/eligible in Pathology
  • Completion of training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training, and security training within the first 30 days of hire
  • Maintain current status on Natera training requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oversight of Natera’s laboratory pathology testing to ensure proper performance, regulatory standards compliance, accurate and reliable patient test results, and proper maintenance of the histology lab (FFPE tissue block processing, slide staining/coverslipping/scanning)
  • Perform performance evaluation of other pathologists in your report
  • Review patient specimens prior to testing in collaboration with other applicable stakeholders
  • Review clinical notes (e.g., chief complaint and treatment history) and pathology reports for tumor information (primary location, histologic type, and sample location [primary vs metastatic]); perform tumor circling on H&E slides for molecular testing; and help identify alternative optimal FFPE block(s) and/or tumor specimen if the current sample is inadequate
  • Review and sign out Immunohistochemistry reports
  • Provide clinical and technical support for genetic counselors and other laboratory personnel
  • Set standards for laboratory testing and acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensure these are maintained
  • Analyze lab data and contribute to or write publications for high-quality scientific journals
  • May serve as Clinical Consultant, ensuring proper utility of assays (including sample selection and test appropriateness), test reports include pertinent information for test interpretation, and availability for consultation on test results and interpretation related to specific patient conditions
  • May serve as Technical Supervisor, ensuring appropriate test method selection; adequate method verification; enrollment in CMS-approved proficiency testing (PT) program; PT samples tested per CLIA requirements; PT results returned timely; PT reports reviewed; corrective actions for unacceptable PT results; quality assessment and control programs maintained; acceptable analytical performance maintained; remedial actions for deviations documented; patient results reported only when system functions properly; personnel trained and competent prior to testing; policies for ongoing personnel competency monitoring (preanalytic, analytic, post-analytic); remedial training provided; and approved procedure manual available
  • Manage a team, including reviewing/approving assigned work, mentoring/developing personnel, dedicated succession planning, and contingency management
  • Work with PHI in paper and electronic form and access various technologies to access PHI to perform the job
