Director of Sourcing and Contract Management

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview

Humana is seeking a high-impact, forward-thinking Director of Sourcing and Contract Management to lead the execution engine of our Procurement organization. This role is foundational to delivering on our high-performance Procurement Operating Model and is critical in translating strategy into execution - where value is realized, risks are managed, and partnerships are formalized.

As we transform how Procurement delivers for the business, this leader will ensure we have a fit-for-purpose sourcing and contracting capability that is fast, consistent, scalable, and rooted in commercial excellence. By integrating internal and external resources within a cohesive delivery construct, this role will ensure our sourcing and contracting activities are both operationally efficient and strategically aligned with enterprise goals.

This Director of Sourcing and Contract Management will not only steward transactional throughput but also act as a force multiplier - accelerating business outcomes, improving cycle times, deepening supplier partnerships, and creating reinvestment capacity through better commercial outcomes. Reporting to the Chief Procurement Officer, this position offers a unique platform to shape the trajectory of Procurement at the enterprise level. This leader will be an integral member of the Supplier Management Leadership Team (SMLT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performing sourcing and contracting organization that executes complex third-party engagements across a diverse range of categories and business stakeholders.
  • Oversee and optimize a hybrid delivery model, including governance of an offshore partner. Ensure the integrated team operates as a single, outcomes-driven unit.
  • Serve as a key driver of our Procurement Operating Model transformation, helping to industrialize sourcing and contracting processes while elevating service levels and throughput.
  • Establish and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships, especially with Category Management, the Procurement Center for Enablement (data/analytics/tools), Finance, Legal, Risk, and the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) team.
  • Embed sourcing best practices that balance speed, compliance, and total value delivery—enabling faster time-to-contract and consistent commercial terms across the enterprise.
  • Institutionalize contract lifecycle management practices to improve visibility, renewals, risk mitigation, and performance tracking.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through process optimization, automation, and metric-based governance.
  • Develop talent across the team, fostering a culture of performance, ownership, and continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Proven track record leading sourcing and/or contract management functions in complex, matrixed organizations.
    • Deep experience with outsourced delivery models, including direct accountability for managing third-party partners.
    • Experience with procurement technologies (e.g., SpendHQ, Coupa, and Icertis platforms) and digital workflows.
    • Expertise in procurement operations, process improvement, and commercial negotiation.
    • Strong knowledge of contract law, risk allocation, and cross-functional contracting norms.
    • Adept at cross-functional collaboration and influencing without authority—particularly across Legal, Finance, Compliance, and business stakeholders.
    • Executive presence with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Travel as business needs dictate.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Healthcare / health insurance industry experience a plus.
    • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., JD, CPSM, CIPS).
