A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in corporate tax accounting, including leadership roles, is required. Deep technical knowledge of ASC 740, U.S. GAAP, and guiding accounting principles is essential, along with strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax laws and regulations. Proficiency with tax provision software like OneSource Tax Provision and ERP systems such as Oracle is necessary. Experience in the health care or insurance industry, or with clients in this sector from a Big 4 firm, is preferred, as is familiarity with SSAP 101 statutory accounting principles, NAIC reporting requirements, and international tax issues. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, attention to detail, and a proven ability to lead through change and influence cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

The Director, Tax Accounting will lead the preparation, review, and analysis of the company’s quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740 and SSAP 101. This role involves overseeing tax-related disclosures in SEC filings and statutory financial statements, managing global and statutory effective tax rate forecasting, and partnering with external auditors and regulatory bodies. Responsibilities include ensuring appropriate internal controls, collaborating cross-functionally with various departments, and monitoring the impact of changes in tax laws and accounting standards. The Director will also collaborate on valuation allowance needs, uncertain tax positions, and tax considerations for joint ventures, support M&A activities from a tax accounting perspective, and lead and mentor a team of tax professionals. Driving automation and process enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy in tax reporting is also a key responsibility.
