Requirements

  • Well-rounded physician scientist (MD preferred, given job sub-function)
  • Investigative mind and track record of excellent communication and collaboration in cross-functional, complex, fast-paced, highly matrixed environments
  • Deep understanding of systems and pathway biology, mechanistic pathobiology, and biochemistry
  • Ability to “translate” pathologic and clinical findings into disease phenotypes
  • Expertise to guide strategy for mechanistic de-risking and understanding of safety signals in pre-clinical and clinical development across multiple therapeutic areas (oncology, immunology, neurosciences, ophthalmology, others)
  • Experience working with global teams in toxicology, safety pharmacology, pathobiology, DMPK, and bioanalysis
  • Creative scientific, translational, and strategic mindset
  • Ability to identify opportunities for cross-disciplinary project impact, raise scientific standards, and challenge/defend scientific/strategic views to senior management

Responsibilities

  • Guide strategy for mechanistic de-risking and understanding of safety signals in pre-clinical and clinical development within a multi-modality portfolio
  • Build strong partnerships with Translational Research, Global Medical Safety, Clinical Pharmacology, investigative toxicology, pathobiology, safety pharmacology, and other pre-clinical sciences
  • Set investigative pre-clinical strategy and bridge knowledge between pre-clinical and clinical disciplines to advance new medicines into the clinic
  • Contribute to discovery programs by providing expert interpretation and contextualization of competitive intelligence around clinical safety data in collaboration with medical safety officers, translational leads, and compound development team leaders
  • Establish a robust translational safety assessment framework
  • Ensure clinical insights are translated back into discovery to inform and optimize preclinical safety models and improve safety profiles of future therapies
  • Work as part of the Translational Safety leadership team (individual contributor role reporting to Executive Director, Global Translational Safety)
