Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • At least 6 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
  • Strong legal and business analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively organize thoughts on legal risk, focusing on what matters in driving business initiatives forward responsibly
  • Preferred: 7+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency, ideally involving consumer financial services, regulatory counseling, or the fintech industry
  • Preferred: Expertise in or significant experience with consumer financial regulatory laws, marketing and advertising laws, and/or general risk management
  • Preferred: Ability to work in a dynamic environment and flexibility to adapt to changing needs
  • Preferred: 5+ years people management experience
  • Preferred: Ability to build collegial and effective relationships with attorneys, business managers, creative teams, analysts, project managers, and corporate compliance professionals, and work cooperatively to resolve issues smoothly
  • Preferred: Ability to prioritize work and manage

Responsibilities

  • Identifying and assessing legal risks associated with Capital One’s rewards and benefits programs, part of the Premium Products and Experiences line of business
  • Knowing your business in depth, allowing you to translate and apply laws and legal requirements for the business teams and the business intent for the legal team and legal subject matter experts
  • Actively engaging with colleagues to provide legal support as part of a collaborative and cross-functional team
  • Working with the PPX and Card businesses, Brand, the Business Risk Office, Corporate Communications, and Compliance stakeholders to address risks, develop creative solutions, and resolve issues
  • Applying strategic and analytical skills supporting credit card rewards and benefits programs across Premium Products & Experiences (PPX) and Card businesses
  • Advising on the team’s mission to develop, offer and deliver industry-leading credit card rewards and benefits that provide unique and differentiated value to customers
  • Partnering with the business on strategy and brainstorming
  • Learning about and deeply understanding the rewards team’s initiatives
  • Investigating and assessing legal, operational, and business risks
  • Advising on different features and customer experiences
  • Building working relationships across the Card Legal team and the Legal department
