Requirements

Bachelor's degree or some college with Dietetic Internship or similar Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved program required, unless already registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
Registered Dietitian - Commission on Dietetic Registration within 180 days
Licensed Dietitian - Licensing Board licensed in the state based off job assignment as a Dietitian within 180 days
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Knowledge of age-specific factors for patients from infant through geriatrics
Preferred: 1-3 years experience and advanced certifications in specialty area

Responsibilities

Perform accurate and timely assessment of patient’s nutritional status, including obtaining and interpreting information on nutritional needs, patient/family knowledge, readiness to learn, cultural/religious needs, and physical/mental limitations
Plan and implement individualized, outcomes-based nutritional care plan with clearly defined, measurable goals
Provide medical nutrition therapy to patients/family based on assessment needs
Ensure continuity of nutrition care through communication with relevant care providers at admission and discharge
Help transition patients to a new care environment
Document all phases of the nutrition care process in a complete and concise manner
Develop and interpret patient education classes and/or materials
Educate the public by planning and presenting lectures related to nutrition therapy and community nutrition
Provide guidance to dietetic assistant in identifying and assigning patients to nutritional risk levels using screening/assessment policies and procedures
Function as an integral member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team through active participation in team conferences, multidisciplinary care planning, and ongoing communication
