Requirements

  • Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Compliance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
  • Ability to setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Knowledge of FMC Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, and process improvement
  • Certification/competency as PCT (implied by role)
  • Ability to perform clinical tasks such as vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs, heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law)

Responsibilities

  • Participate in recruitment of new clinical staff
  • Assist with clinical orientation and ongoing training of direct patient care personnel and facility staff
  • Function as preceptor in direct patient care training programs per FMS standards
  • Deliver and maintain competency evaluations/audits for other PCTs
  • Collaborate with Clinical Manager and Education Coordinator on quality standards, ESRD regulations, and CQI
  • Provide coaching and developmental support to clinical and facility staff
  • Partner with RN and IDT to educate on facility water systems integrity and safety, and environmental integrity
  • Ensure strong communication on training and organizational development programs
  • Participate in/design creative educational programs for PCT staff (e.g., contests)
  • Collaborate on scheduling and implementing training programs
  • Monitor patient care delivery through CQI activities
  • Incorporate FMS business policies, procedures, and ethical practices into training
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, evaluate vascular access patency
  • Obtain pre/post treatment vital signs and weight
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and heparin administration as allowed
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per orders (QB, QD)
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and intervene as prescribed
  • Monitor patient response to dialysis and obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion
  • Assist in maintaining safe and clean working environment
