Candidates should have 1 to 3 years of experience working as a data engineer or in dedicated data engineering coursework, experience working on complex data pipelines using SQL (preferably Snowflake) and Python, experience using popular data transformation frameworks like dbt or SQLMesh, understanding of data modeling strategies for both transactional and data warehousing workloads, and a solid conceptual grasp (and preferably hands-on experience with) orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar. Familiarity with cloud data architecture such as asynchronous messaging (Kafka, Pub/Sub, or similar), HTTP(S), REST, S3, and data storage formats such as Avro, Parquet, and Iceberg is also required.
The Data Engineer will build and maintain scalable, maintainable data transformation pipelines using Python and dbt to power the whole company's data science and analytics needs, stand up new low-latency data processing infrastructure to provide clean data to machine learning models, apply software engineering best practices to the development, testing, and deployment of data systems and tooling, introduce and improve workflow orchestration and automation processes, identify, synthesize, and prioritize stakeholder requirements and opportunities for improvements to existing systems, define and demonstrate patterns for writing, documenting, and distributing data transformation code, participate in incident response for production data systems and monitoring automation, help maintain secure data governance and access policies, and write and maintain detailed but clear technical documentation.
Technology platform for terminal-free freight shipping
Flock Freight operates in the freight shipping industry with a focus on improving the shipping process through its patented platform called FlockDirect®. This platform eliminates the need for terminals, which are typically used as transfer points in shipping, leading to faster delivery times and reduced damage to goods. By combining multiple shipments into a shared truckload, Flock Freight enhances efficiency for shippers and increases profitability for carriers. This model is especially advantageous for businesses with weight constraints, as demonstrated by clients like Waiākea Water, who have seen delivery costs drop by up to 50%. Flock Freight charges clients for its shipping services, leveraging the cost savings from its terminal-free approach to offer competitive pricing while ensuring profitability. The company's goal is to streamline freight shipping, making it more efficient and cost-effective for a wide range of businesses.
