Position Overview

The Disney Streaming Analytics’ Content & Engagement Core Data team is seeking a Data Analyst to help build and scale data infrastructure for measuring and understanding sports content performance across ESPN, Disney+, Hulu, and more. This role involves transforming data into information, information into insights, and insights into key business decisions that guide the company's strategic direction. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, is an excellent communicator, and is a self-starter.

This technical Data Analyst role will focus on developing sports data solutions for various stakeholders. Collaborating with data engineering, data science, and both ESPN & Disney business teams, this position requires subject matter expertise in sports content across multiple streaming services, product offerings, and platforms. The analyst will support multiple product launches and initiatives, focusing on designing and implementing core sports content data models for internal client exploration, analysis, and monitoring. A specific emphasis will be placed on TVE (TV Everywhere) offerings, aiming to better understand the engagement of TVE users compared to DTC subscribers.

Responsibilities

  • ETL & Metric Design: Own metric design and creation, defining business requirements, framework, optimization, and long-term data scalability.
  • Creation of a Single Source of Truth: Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to define and standardize metrics.
  • Partnership and Communication: Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs for decision-making. Partner with other data teams to improve platform capabilities in data modeling, testing platforms, data visualization, and data architecture.
  • Reporting and Performance: Support reporting for exceptionally large-scale data. Act as an expert for analysts on the team and partner with Data Engineering in designing and building performant ETLs, intermediary tables, and efficient Tableau and Looker dashboards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of analytical experience, with a preference for experience in analytics and/or engineering.
  • Mastery of SQL.
  • Some experience with Airflow, Databricks, etc. is a plus.
  • Experience developing and maintaining optimized tables for reporting through ETLs.
  • Project and resource management experience, including outlining objectives, timelines, and coordinating work across multiple contributors.
  • Some experience with Python/R or other statistical programming languages.
  • Ability to handle large-scale data challenges and a willingness to engage directly with data.
  • Strong communication skills, including written and verbal presentation skills, with experience presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in developing data exploration and data visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, Chartio, etc.

Nice to Haves

  • A passion for sports.
  • Familiarity with the TVE (TV Everywhere) streaming service model and related concepts.

Compensation

The hiring range for this position in New York is $99,900 - $133,900 per year and in Los Angeles is $95,300 - $127,800 per year. The actual base pay offered will consider internal equity, the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
