Requirements

Effective communication, listening, and conflict mediation skills
Ability to demonstrate and teach work with youth in individual and group settings to modify behaviors
Lived experience, including significant personal growth and change since release from a correctional system
Ability to use lived experience to connect with at-risk youth and guide them towards prosocial living
At-will shift work availability on Monday thru Friday or Tuesday thru Saturday schedule for 8-hour shifts "as needed" between 8AM to 7PM
Compassionate and enthusiastic with a desire to teach, learn, and join the community
Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures
Ability to model professionalism, effective work habits, and responsible living
Ability to protect and maintain participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality

Responsibilities

Supervise Credible Messenger Associates (Credible Messengers)
Support and coach Credible Messengers, guiding and motivating at-risk youth to challenge and transform negative thinking, attitudes, and actions
Rely on unique relationships with at-risk youth to implement innovative approaches to restorative justice
Utilize effective communication, listening, and conflict mediation skills to engage youth participants
Work in conjunction with staff to model positive behavior, including respect, support, and encouragement during challenging situations
Provide youth with tools and skills needed for success
Work with youth in individual and group settings to modify behaviors
Promote restorative justice, family involvement, community engagement, and re-integration in the community
Partner with DYD/Probation staff to create a therapeutic environment focusing on developing youths’ identity, family connections, and positive community
Communicate effectively with DYD/Probation staff
Support policies, procedures, strategies for service delivery, and ensure contract compliance with Amity Foundation, DYD, and LA County Juvenile Probation
Assist Project Director with supervision, training, and faculty/staff monitoring as needed
May substitute or “cover” for Credible Messengers as needed
Conduct face-to-face services in LA County Probation Facilities, Camps, Secure Youth Treatment Facilities (SYTF’s), and designated units at Juvenile Halls/Camps (e.g., Los Padrinos, Camp Glenn Rockey, Barry J.)
