Requirements

Candidates must have 5+ years of software development experience in a SaaS environment, including at least 3 years as a senior team member. Required skills include extensive experience with ReactJS, leveraging Javascript conventions, and working knowledge of semantic HTML, responsive CSS, and frontend design patterns. A strong understanding of modern web app architecture, web fundamentals, developer tooling, unit test writing, and REST APIs is also necessary. Experience with accessibility guidelines and AWS is a plus, as is experience working on a fullstack team. Preference will be given to candidates with Typescript knowledge.

Responsibilities

The Senior Frontend Software Engineer Contractor will contribute to the development of Newsela.com's main homepage and the API development of the Content Service. Responsibilities include writing quality code and automated tests, independently owning feature delivery, and providing input for scoping and design. The contractor will collaborate with the lead engineer on work breakdown, ticket grooming, and sprint organization, and partner with Engineering, Product Management, and Product Design to refine goals into actionable work items. They will also be responsible for identifying missing requirements early, creating performant and scalable systems, writing resilient and testable code, and meeting sprint commitments.
