Requirements

Candidates must have strong experience with cloud-managed databases such as AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL/Spanner, or Azure SQL, along with NoSQL services. A deep understanding of SQL performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization is essential. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation is required, as is knowledge of database security, encryption, and regulatory compliance. Experience with observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana) and cost monitoring is also necessary. Strong communication skills, the ability to coach and collaborate with engineering teams, and command of the English language, both verbally and in writing, are crucial.

Responsibilities

The Cloud Database Engineer will design, implement, and evolve cloud database services for products and internal platforms. They will curate and standardize managed database offerings, build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code modules for database provisioning, and ensure compliance with data security, isolation, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include defining and maintaining reliability baselines, monitoring and optimizing database performance, scalability, and cost, and building automation and observability for database metrics, access control, and schema management. The role also involves acting as a consultant and coach for product teams on schema design, query optimization, and database best practices.
