Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint check
Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment
All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter
Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance
Experience or knowledge of insurance billing/collection practices (preferred)
Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding
Knowledge of EFTs, EOBs, and basic understanding of medical and insurance terminology (preferred)
Strong communication skills and strong customer service skills
Detail oriented with ability to prioritize work
Ability to perform tasks effectively and with accuracy
Strong analytical skills
Basic math and data entry typing skills, including 10 key
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Positive, friendly, approachable disposition
Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures and follow instructions
Physical ability for sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, repetitive movements of hands/fingers/arms, sitting most of the time with occasional walking/standing

Responsibilities

Assure coding is compliant with billing and coding guidelines and according to contract
Submit insurance claims to clearinghouse/Department of Mental Health or individual insurance companies electronically or via paper CMS-1500 form in a timely manner
Follow up with insurance payers on unpaid, denied, or rejected claims
Manually enter charges in electronic health record
Resolve issues and resubmit or appeal claims
Utilize insurance websites, provider portals, send secure messages, and make phone calls
Prepare charge invoices for non-insurance payers
Run reports
Timely review and follow up to all insurance inquiries and correspondence
Document procedures/processes
Manage all facets of insurance, client, and grant billing, payment posting, charge follow up, and customer service including answering client inquiries
