Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint check
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment
  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter
  • Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance
  • Experience or knowledge of insurance billing/collection practices (preferred)
  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Knowledge of EFTs, EOBs, and basic understanding of medical and insurance terminology (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and strong customer service skills
  • Detail oriented with ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to perform tasks effectively and with accuracy
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Basic math and data entry typing skills, including 10 key
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Positive, friendly, approachable disposition
  • Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures and follow instructions
  • Physical ability for sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, repetitive movements of hands/fingers/arms, sitting most of the time with occasional walking/standing

Responsibilities

  • Assure coding is compliant with billing and coding guidelines and according to contract
  • Submit insurance claims to clearinghouse/Department of Mental Health or individual insurance companies electronically or via paper CMS-1500 form in a timely manner
  • Follow up with insurance payers on unpaid, denied, or rejected claims
  • Manually enter charges in electronic health record
  • Resolve issues and resubmit or appeal claims
  • Utilize insurance websites, provider portals, send secure messages, and make phone calls
  • Prepare charge invoices for non-insurance payers
  • Run reports
  • Timely review and follow up to all insurance inquiries and correspondence
  • Document procedures/processes
  • Manage all facets of insurance, client, and grant billing, payment posting, charge follow up, and customer service including answering client inquiries
