Requirements

  • Functions as the hemodialysis team leader in chronic hemodialysis care and treatment
  • Provides day-to-day direction and supervision to assigned direct patient care staff
  • Communicates with physicians and healthcare team to interpret, adjust, and complete patient care plans
  • Ensures safe, effective patient care delivery in compliance with facility procedures, company standards, state, and federal regulations

  • Maintains knowledge of current dialysis principles and techniques through scheduled in-services
  • Ability to train, orient, and guide staff on techniques and facility policies

  • Supervises documentation of patient information
  • Assesses patient needs, responds to dialysis treatments, and communicates with physicians
  • Administers medications per physician orders
  • Acts as subject matter expert and resource for staff
  • Supervises safe and effective use of dialysis and emergency equipment
  • Performs required testing, verification, and checklists for equipment start-up and shut-down

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, direction, informal feedback, and formal input for staff performance evaluations
  • Participate in department staffing, hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions; recommend and initiate as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with procedures, policies, and regulations in clinics with >100 patients; approve/disapprove schedule changes in Clinical Manager's absence
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings
  • Routinely observe and guide direct patient care staff for technique and policy adherence
  • Maintain overall shift operation safely, efficiently, and effectively
  • Conduct staff meetings monthly or as needed with Clinical Manager to inform staff of changes
  • Meet routinely with Clinical Manager to discuss personnel, patient care status, issues, and information
  • Coordinate Charge Nurse duties with relief Staff RNs
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop/distribute assignments
  • Assume primary responsibility in emergencies
  • Implement changes in patient care/treatment as directed
  • Monitor and supervise all patient care activity during dialysis; assist as necessary
  • Collaborate with direct patient care team on decisions benefiting patient care
  • Continuously monitor patient condition for dialysis-related problems and complications
  • Supervise and participate in short- and long-term care plans
  • Admit new patients per facility procedure
  • Ensure patient and family education on End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis, diet, and medications
  • Operate dialysis-related and emergency equipment safely when needed
