Requirements

  • Completion of 75 hours CNA course
  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Iowa
  • CPR certification within 3 months of hire
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior related work experience preferred
  • Attends 12 hours of in-service training yearly
  • Bi-lingual experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides bedside care, takes vital signs, passes fresh water, helps pass food trays, assists with feeding, collects urine specimens, maintains accurate intake and output of fluids, conducts hourly rounding, answers call lights
  • Removes peripheral IVs and Foley catheters, performs flu and strep waive testing, bladder scans, uses glucometer to test blood sugars
  • Logs into Vocera adding room assignments
  • Assists nurse with admissions by weighing patient, taking vitals, providing room orientation to patient and family, communicates activities and vital information to nurse
  • Applies aseptic technique, follows infection control principles and policies, displays proper care, utilization, and charging of supplies and equipment
  • Gives prompt assistance to co-workers, works with all departments for coordinated patient care, answers phone calls, transfers calls, pages doctors and personnel
  • Receives bedside reports from previous shift, receives patient assignments from Resource Nurse, provides bedside report to oncoming staff
  • Records and documents clinical data such as vital signs, hygiene, and activity
  • Collects soiled linens in Med Surg/OB/ED areas and delivers to soiled linen sorting area
  • Assists with distribution of clean linen to Med Surg/OB areas
  • Maintains a clean/neat environment in working areas including patient rooms, terminals, nurse stations, lounges, hallways, bathrooms, kitchen areas, elevators, and lobby areas
  • Participates in all cleaning activities
