Requirements
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
- One-year route delivery experience or applicable background driving a straight truck
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License – Class B (Class A preferred)
- Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records
- Ability to operate vehicle in a variety of traffic and weather conditions
- Ability to meet or exceed minimum productivity levels and established cases per error goals
- Strong customer relations and problem resolution skills
- Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independently
- Good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures
- Ability to maintain inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations
- Proven ability to communicate articulately and perform simple arithmetic (experience handling money preferred)
- Frequent lifting of product up to 50 lbs., infrequent lifting to 80 lbs.; ability to climb on and off truck; frequent bending, squatting, pushing, pulling; ability to work in confined spaces
Responsibilities
- Run daily routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times
- Load packages onto hand trucks and unload product at each stop on the assigned route in designated order
- Operate in a cross-dock model: pick up loaded truck from nightly delivery at assigned loading dock and return empty truck to assigned lot at end of route
- Occasionally assist with loading trucks, palletizing product, and other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager
- Unload product from trailer by hand or using hand cart and place in designated customer storage areas (may include ramps, stairs, docks, all weather conditions)
- Frequently lift, push, or move product weighing 1-75 lbs. (up to 100 lbs.), reach up to 72” to stack/unstack pallets and hand carts, constantly bend and twist while loading/unloading and retrieving items
- Verify delivery of items with customer, obtain proper signatures, contact management for invoice discrepancies, and communicate all errors/returns
- Call in when customer does not receive entire order (shorts)
- Handle customer complaints professionally
- Handle company equipment properly, follow written driver safety rules, perform pre-trip inspections, and complete pre-trip and post-trip responsibilities per DOT regulations and Sysco policies
- Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects
