Position Overview

Dane Street, a national provider of Utilization Review services, is expanding its physician panel and seeking Board Certified Pulmonologists with active California licenses to join as independent contract reviewers (1099). This telework opportunity offers supplemental income and a flexible caseload customized to your schedule.

About Independent Medical Review (IMR)

IMR is a binding appeals process in California's workers' compensation system for disputes arising from the denial or modification of treatment requests. Since July 1, 2013, IMR resolves all medical treatment disputes, streamlining the process significantly. Physicians in this role evaluate medical necessity based on established standards, including the Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule (MTUS) and Official Disability Guidelines (ODG), and articulate their rationale in written determinations.

Requirements

• Current, unrestricted California Medical License
• Active Practice
• Board Certified in Pulmonology/Pulmonary Disease

Preferred but Not Required:

• California IMR experience

Responsibilities

• Provide expert reviews of medical necessity for treatment requests.
• Assess cases using evidence-based guidelines (MTUS, ODG).
• Clearly articulate rationale in written determinations.
