Physician Reviewer - Pain Management (California IMR)

Position Overview

Dane Street, a national provider of Utilization Review services, is expanding its physician panel. We offer non-traditional work and supplemental income opportunities for physicians through a telework model. This role involves reviewing Independent Medical Review (IMR) cases for the California workers' compensation system.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted California Medical License
  • Active Practice
  • Board Certified in Pain Management
  • Experience in the California Independent Medical Review (IMR) process (Preferred but not required)
  • Expertise in the Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule (MTUS) and Official Disability Guidelines (ODG)
  • Experience with medicolegal writing

Responsibilities

  • Review medical necessity of treatment requests based on evidence-based guidelines.
  • Evaluate cases using MTUS, ODG, and other established standards.
  • Provide expert opinions on treatment disputes within the California workers' compensation system.
  • Clearly articulate rationale in written determinations.

  • Typical Turnaround Time (TAT): 7 business days, depending on the review level. Dane Street keeps reviewers apprised of required TAT.
