Position Overview

Feathr's SaaS platform is a critical component of the value we deliver to our clients. We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to help us create robust, scalable, and efficient server-side applications that meet the advertising, marketing, and web analytics needs of our diverse customer base. A Backend Engineer at Feathr has a demonstrated interest and proficiency in modern web development and can build reliable, performant APIs and services. You will work under the direction of the Associate Director of Product Engineering on backend projects. Engineers at Feathr own their code from planning to maintenance to retirement. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop requirements and design technical solutions, collaborate with your engineering colleagues to implement those solutions, deploy and monitor your changes in production, and address issues as they are identified.

Responsibilities

  • Solve backend technical problems and document their solutions.
  • Work alongside other Product Team Engineers to design and develop backend features.
  • Receive feedback on your code and features, and iterate.
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Monitor and maintain system health and performance.
  • Collaborate with members of other departments to ensure technical solutions meet the business interests of the company.
  • Contribute to maintaining the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of Feathr's data and operations.

Requirements

Your Experience:

  • 1-3 years of backend software engineering experience.
  • Professional experience owning a backend feature that included shipping server-side components to real users.
  • Experience building scalable, reliable web services and APIs.

Your Technical Skills:

  • Strong experience with Python and related frameworks (Flask, Django, FastAPI).
  • Experience with MongoDB queries and aggregations.
  • Basic understanding of Elasticsearch and related APIs.
  • Knowledge of Redis for caching and data operations.
  • Understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of asynchronous processing and messaging systems.
  • Knowledge of backend testing frameworks and methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines (preferably Drone CI/CD).

Your Qualities:

  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for modern backend development and distributed systems.
  • Service-oriented, team player who is here to achieve success for Feathr as well as themselves.
  • Pragmatic, customer-oriented - you are building services to help customers, not for the sake of building complex systems.
  • Comfortable adapting to quickly changing conditions. You might be working on one project but need to context switch to another unexpectedly in the case of a critical system issue.
  • Careful, detail-oriented approach to building backend applications - ask questions first, write code later.
  • Comfortable breaking down technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Your code solves immediate problems while building a sustainable backend architecture that lasts into the future.
  • Strong focus on system reliability, performance, and scalability.
