Position Overview

Octopus Energy Engineering is responsible for the sites, services, and tariffs used by millions of Octopus Energy customers worldwide. We tackle a wide variety of challenges, from building cutting-edge time-of-use tariffs to making everyday tasks like providing meter readings enjoyable. Our teams are multi-disciplined and collaborate across countries, empowering you to bring together the right people and build the next great innovation in the energy revolution.

We are seeking a Backend Engineer II to join our global backend team at OE Engineering. We foster a flat hierarchy, an open, agile culture that encourages innovation, flexibility, and creativity. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of sites, services, and tariffs for Octopus Energy customers.
  • Build and maintain cutting-edge energy solutions.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams across different countries.
  • Solve complex problems in the energy sector.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving, who is diligent and thoughtful.

Essential Experience/Expertise (in rough priority order):

  • Python
  • Django (or equivalent web framework)
  • Domain modeling
  • GraphQL
  • Writing robust and fault-tolerant software
  • Celery and async processing
  • Postgres

Bonus Experience:

  • AWS
  • React and Redux

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: The expected salary range for this role in Houston, Texas is between $108,000 - $138,000 annually. Compensation will be determined by technical expertise, professional experience, and alignment with role requirements. Exceptional candidates may be considered for the higher end of the range.
  • Location: While our preference is for candidates based in Houston, Texas, we are open to considering exceptional candidates located elsewhere in the US (ideally in central or eastern time zones for easier collaboration with global teams). Salary will be adjusted to reflect local cost of living and market conditions for remote US-based employees.
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Location Type: Not specified (open to US-based candidates, with preference for Houston, TX)
