Responsibilities
Assists more experienced Database Administrators (DBAs) with the testing of database software, utilities, and fixes in a test environment
Assists in the migration of tested/approved database software, utilities, and fixes to production
Begins to demonstrate database administration acumen
Assists in the scheduling of database backup tasks
Observes and supports DBAs during disaster recovery and recovery exercises
Assists DBAs with storage and capacity planning by executing reports, gathering data, and performing basic maintenance (data compression, defragmentation)
Participates in database tuning, optimization, and monitoring tasks by assisting DBAs with routine tasks (query performance monitoring, index rebuilding)
Assists DBAs during application failures to develop troubleshooting techniques
Gathers data/reporting and assists with the production and maintenance of operational database documentation (Disaster Recovery, Recovery Presentation, Naming Standards, Performance and Tuning)
