The Field Medical Advisor (FMA) role is crucial for building and maintaining relationships within the medical community, including healthcare practitioners, policymakers, payers, and administrators. The FMA's primary goal is to ensure a thorough understanding of Moderna's science and data, while also gathering insights from across the healthcare ecosystem. This role focuses on improving patient outcomes through peer-to-peer scientific exchange about Moderna’s mRNA platform science, building trust, and encouraging engagement via personalized and digital interactions. The FMA is instrumental in establishing Moderna's thought leadership and insight generation within the medical and healthcare community.

This position requires a combination of scientific expertise, strategic thinking, strong internal collaboration, and a commitment to ethical engagement. Responsibilities

  • Strategic Engagement: Develop and implement territory engagement plans that align with medical priorities. This involves leveraging a deep understanding of the healthcare ecosystem and therapeutic areas to effectively communicate Moderna’s science and data, in accordance with company strategy and customer needs.
  • Communication Excellence: Utilize strong verbal and written communication skills to explain complex scientific topics clearly. This includes understanding and documenting customer feedback, engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, and employing tools such as Moderna's Scientific Communications Platform and generative AI to enhance engagement impact.
  • Medical Intelligence: Actively listen to customers to gather and report comprehensive beliefs, information, and thoughts. This medical intelligence will inform broader insights, identify unmet medical needs, advance medical knowledge, pinpoint data gaps, and help refine strategies to improve patient care.
  • Stakeholder Interaction: Engage with a wide array of individuals and organizations within the medical and healthcare community. This includes Key Opinion Leaders, scientific societies, national/regional public health institutions, advisory and professional bodies, academic and research institutions, and advisory and regulatory bodies. This requires strategic and empathetic listening and providing scientific support that aligns with Moderna’s objectives.
  • Scientific Expertise: Participate in in-depth scientific discussions regarding Moderna’s mRNA platform. Share current clinical data and scientific concepts relevant to Moderna’s therapeutic areas, including clinical trial data and research findings, to support the medical and scientific community. A high-level understanding and ability to discuss Health Economic (HEOR) and Real-World Data/Evidence (RWD/RWE) is expected.
  • Enhancement of Patient Care and Outcomes: Collaborate with Moderna teams and healthcare professionals to identify challenges and develop solutions that improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Management of Medical Strategies: Execute medical engagement activities such as advisory boards, partnerships, round tables, and conferences. Successfully manage Moderna’s processes for Fellowships, Grants, Sponsorships, and Investigator Sponsored Studies.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Uphold ethical standards and protocols. Document all activities promptly in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and report adverse events and product quality complaints.
