Practical hands-on mentoring experience in at least two of the following areas is necessary: environment art, character art, concept art, UI, VFX, lighting, or animation. A working knowledge of modern game development workflows across all major artistic disciplines and a solid understanding of art fundamentals are also required. Strong leadership skills with an inspirational, lead-by-example approach are crucial, as is the ability to bring a competitive edge to the studio through Art Direction.
The Associate Art Director will define and maintain a strong artistic vision in close collaboration with the Art Director and Executive Producer, ensuring alignment with game design, product direction, and marketing strategy. They will own the visual quality bar for all internal and external art assets, ensuring consistency and excellence across disciplines. Responsibilities include creating and contributing to style guides and visual documentation, running regular feedback sessions with clear and actionable direction, and guiding best practices in pipelines and workflows for efficient game art development. The role involves collaborating with production to scope and schedule art deliverables, directly mentoring lead artists, and taking an active role in recruitment by identifying and interviewing new talent. Additionally, the Associate Art Director will engage in studio-wide initiatives to contribute to studio culture, cross-team collaboration, and company-wide creative evolution.
