Requirements

  • Knowledge of the Bank's sales process, relationship management, and portfolio management
  • Thorough knowledge of all procedures affecting branch activities, including consumer/business banking guidelines, new account handling, exception processing, operational, security, and control policies
  • Compliance with audit requirements, fraud prevention, Know Your Customer (KYC), and customer information profile (CIP)
  • Ability to profile customers to identify financial needs across all product and service lines
  • Skills in accurate and timely processing of teller transactions (on a limited basis)
  • Insurance licensing designations (for coaching on quality referral and sales generation)
  • Ability to supervise branch operations in absence of Branch Manager, including training, coaching, hiring, scheduling, monitoring expenses, resolving personnel problems, and providing input on performance appraisals

Responsibilities

  • Assist branch management in administering and directing employee coaching, sales/business development, marketing, and operations
  • Develop new customer relationships and expand/retain existing ones by identifying opportunities using portfolio management and the Bank's sales process to achieve sales/referral goals
  • Identify customers' financial needs and present appropriate product/service options, working with internal business partners
  • Build new customer relationships through frequent interactions in the first 90 days
  • Proactively contact customers in assigned portfolio and participate in branch sales promotions
  • Exemplify and coach exceptional customer experience, including proactive greeting, using customer names, and specific closing phrases
  • Take ownership of account servicing, error resolution, and escalated issues, including override authority, follow-up, and converting to sales opportunities
  • Meet with branch customers to assess needs, present options, and complete sales/referrals
  • Support branch goals for customer retention, acquisition, growth, and Insurance revenue
  • Maintain professional manner to build customer confidence and trust
  • Project positive image of M&T Bank in the community through local organization involvement
  • Ensure compliance with policies/procedures, prevent fraud, and protect customer assets
  • Demonstrate teamwork by assisting colleagues and participating/leading in branch team meetings
  • Coach branch team on quality referrals and sales generation
  • Supervise branch operations in absence of Branch Manager; assist with new hires, training, coaching, hiring, scheduling, expense monitoring, personnel issues, and performance appraisals
