Assistant Vice President, Sales - Southeast Region

Position Overview

Tempus is seeking a passionate and driven Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Sales to lead business results, sales activities, strategic collaborations, and cross-functional initiatives for their team. This front-line sales leadership position will oversee a region encompassing 5-10 states in the Southeast (including Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky). The AVP will be responsible for day-to-day business decisions, including resource deployment, cost allocation, and directing business activities. Success in this role requires analytical rigor in assessing account knowledge, market intelligence, environmental factors, and political landscapes to develop solutions to field challenges, while aligning with strategic objectives, resource constraints, and organizational values. Frequent travel is required for field support and executive-level meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Sales Achievement: Achieve area-level sales objectives, including revenue and expense targets.
  • Business Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive area and regional business plans.
  • Strategy Execution: Direct the execution of sales strategies and tactics, and implement sales and marketing plans.
  • Key Account Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with high-priority accounts, creating mutually beneficial business solutions and applying customer-focused models for breakthrough results.
  • Team Development: Plan and conduct area sales meetings to impart product knowledge, applications, and enhance sales and business skills.
  • Performance Evaluation: Evaluate the performance of Regional Sales Managers and Clinical Account Executives.
  • Market Knowledge: Maintain a high level of product and market knowledge.
  • Contracting: Identify and pursue contracting opportunities with academic medical centers, large cancer centers, health systems, and other strategically important key accounts.
  • CRM Management: Oversee the management of Tempus’s CRM solution for the defined geographic region.
  • Sales Enablement: Develop Regional Sales Managers' skills to drive broader Account Executive enablement.
  • Cross-functional Support: Support internal department sales-facing initiatives, including marketing, sales operations, customer success, and product development.
  • Hiring: Execute on the area-level hiring plan for manager, account executive, and account associate positions.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners to access resources and maximize outcomes.
  • Sales Enablement & Data: Drive sales enablement through the utilization of CRM and data analytics platforms to influence sales behaviors, strategy, and process.

Required Skills

  • Domain Expertise: Deep domain knowledge of the Diagnostic Services industry. Molecular Diagnostic experience is strongly preferred.
  • Oncology Sales Experience: Experience selling Oncology-based tests and services into the Pathology and/or Oncology clinical communities is preferred.
  • Complex Selling: Proven experience within complex selling environments is required.
  • Talent Management: Demonstrated success in recruiting, hiring, developing, and retaining talent.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ability to prioritize and align organizational goals and objectives; foster innovation.
  • Cross-functional Relationships: Ability to develop and utilize cross-functional relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals and objectives.
  • Solution Selling: Ability to provide an integrated MolDx/SaaS solution using Tempus’s sequencing technology to prospects and customers.
  • Consultative Selling: Ability to engage in a consultative selling process that overcomes objections and indifference, connecting client needs with Tempus's offerings.
