Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Knowledge of dialysis modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT), apheresis, and ultrafiltration
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and apply considerable knowledge to a broad range of tasks
  • Experience or capability to supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians, clerical staff, and provide education to ICU staff for CRRT
  • Skills in patient assessment, treatment adjustments, and communication with physicians, hospital staff, and managers
  • Proficiency in operating, testing, calibrating, and maintaining dialysis/apheresis equipment, including safety tests, alarm testing, disinfection, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to accurately document treatments in patient records (e.g., ACES and hospital records)
  • Participation in QAI activities, staff meetings, training, and orientation
  • Compliance with company policies, FMCNA compliance programs, and contracted hospitals’ policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in multiple modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, and apheresis
  • Supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff; provide direction and education to ICU staff for CRRT
  • Assess patients’ responses to treatment, make adjustments/modifications to treatment plans as indicated by physicians, and communicate concerns to managers, physicians, and hospital staff
  • Deliver safe, effective, timely, and efficient care; give organized shift reports and adjust patient schedules for critical needs
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document intradialytic transfusions, notifying of adverse reactions
  • Collaborate and communicate with physicians, healthcare team, FMS facility staff, and hospital personnel to coordinate patient care plans
  • Document all treatment information accurately in patient and hospital records
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, equipment, chairs, and surrounding areas between treatments
  • Prepare for dialysis treatments, perform pre-treatment machine alarm testing, initiate Solution Delivery System if applicable, and operate equipment safely
  • Conduct and document dialysis/apheresis machine safety tests, equipment calibration, dialysate testing, functional testing, and disinfection
  • Act as subject matter expert for hospital staff on dialysis-related patient/equipment complications
  • Report new or unusual incidents, complaints, or problems per Adverse Event Report requirements
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, orientation, and QAI activities
