Requirements

Valid driver's license and insurable under Avera’s vehicle insurance policy (Upon Hire)
High School or GED Equivalent (Preferred)
Less than 1 year experience in geriatric or patient care (Preferred)
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Knowledge of principles of growth and development
Ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the resident/customer's status
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served

Work effectively in a team environment, coordinating workflow with other team members

Responsibilities

Assist in planning, organizing, developing, and implementing the activity program in accordance with current federal, state regulations, and local standards to meet residents' interests, physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being
Assist in implementation of activity programs and social functions (e.g., music, exercise, education, games/puzzles, sensory stimulation, religion, community events, one-to-one activities) that are of interest, age-appropriate, and individualized
Set up activity materials and ensure availability for all departments to easily implement
Assist in scheduling and organizing activities
Record individual resident activity attendance, noting responses or changes in a timely manner
Provide 1-1 interactions for residents with minimal activity participation, those unable to plan their own activities, or those with special needs; prepare weekly assessments in a timely manner
Suggest topics for discussion and promote resident participation and understanding
Participate in quality of care activities
Contact and arrange with volunteers for supplies, room preparation, equipment setup/operation to ensure safe, clean environment; connect with the community
Share duties of transporting residents to/from clinic appointments, shopping, or community events; assist in transporting lab/supplies or information as needed
