Requirements

  • Expertise in accurate and compliant financial reporting and operational accounting
  • Ability to manage daily accounting activities and maintain compliance with local (Japan) and US laws/regulations, including SOX and statutory reporting
  • Experience leading month-end/year-end close processes
  • Knowledge of J-tax returns, Japan statutory financial statements, tax filings per local GAAP, Consumption Tax, and other local tax regulations
  • Proficiency in working with tax firms, payroll, treasury, internal audit, SOX, and external auditors
  • Skills in identifying control gaps, recommending process improvements, and implementing streamlined processes, automation, system enhancements, and policies
  • Capability to handle inter-company transactions and technical accounting matters
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams (e.g., Finance, Legal, Sales Operations, Controllership, Strategic Planning and Analysis, People and Places, Technical Operations, DC Engineering, IT)

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute daily accounting operations including General Ledger maintenance, accounts payable, expense reimbursements, fixed assets, prepaids, and cash management
  • Prepare journal entries, identify and resolve errors, data anomalies, and exceptions for assigned accounts
  • Drive month-end close responsibilities including account reconciliation
  • Conduct research on month-end variance (flux) analyses including P&L and Balance Sheet flux analysis for assigned accounts
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of Japan statutory financial statements and tax filings in accordance with local GAAP and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare accurately and timely explanations for assigned audit-related requests
  • Work closely with a tax firm and file tax returns accurately and timely under supervision by Japan Controller
  • Support compliance with Consumption Tax and other local tax regulations
  • Collaborate with payroll and treasury teams to ensure accurate processing and cash flow management
  • Coordinate with internal audit, SOX, and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and support during audits
  • Perform all tasks in compliance with SOX, identifying control gaps if any, and recommending process improvements
  • Design, propose, and implement streamlined processes, automation, system enhancements, and best-in-class policies for effectiveness and efficiency
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and assist in implementing enhanced accounting controls and tools
  • Provide accounting support for inter-company transactions and assist with technical accounting matters as needed
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including Finance, Legal, and Sales Operations to support business initiatives
  • Collaborate and serve as a liaison to other departments on accounting matters with cross-functional impact, including but not limited to other Controllership functions, Strategic Planning and Analysis, People and Places team, Legal, Technical Operations, DC Engineering, and IT
  • Assist with or be responsible for other duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned. Participate in wider departmental projects and initiatives as requested
