MD/DO and/or PhD in genetics or related field
ABMGG board-certified in Clinical Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics, ABP board-certified in Molecular Genetic Pathology, or equivalent doctoral-level board
Current California lab (licensure implied)
Pass post-offer criminal background check
Complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training, and security training within first 30 days of hire
Maintain current status on Natera training requirements

Responsibilities

Review, approve, and sign-out reports for clinical molecular/cytogenetic and/or oncologic results (e.g., NIPT, carrier screening, PGD/PGS, products of conception, oncology testing) using platforms like SNP array analysis, NGS, and other methodologies
Oversee review of genetic and CNV variant data; interpret NGS and microarray results using medical literature, variant databases, references, and patient demographics
Provide clinical and technical support for genetic counselors and other laboratory personnel
Set standards for laboratory testing and acceptable analytic performance levels; ensure maintenance
Analyze lab data; contribute to or write publications for high-quality scientific journals
May serve as Clinical Consultant: ensure test reports include pertinent information for interpretation; available for consultation on test results and patient conditions
May serve as Technical Supervisor: ensure appropriate test method selection; adequate method verification; enrollment in CMS-approved PT program; proper PT sample testing, reporting, and review; corrective actions for unacceptable PT; quality assessment/control programs; acceptable analytical performance; remedial actions for deviations; report results only when system functions properly; personnel training and competency; policies for ongoing competency monitoring (preanalytical, analytical, postanalytical); identify and provide remedial training/education; approved procedure manual available
Manage a team: review/approve work; mentor/develop personnel; dedicated succession planning and contingency management
Work with PHI in paper/electronic form; access technologies for PHI to perform job
