Requirements

Knowledge of New Jersey Statewide EMS Protocols and medical command directives
Ability to conduct thorough patient assessments and provide basic life support (BLS) care
Proficiency in operating ambulances safely per New Jersey motor vehicle laws and department driving policies, including defensive driving
Skills in accurate documentation using electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) system, meeting regulatory, quality assurance, and legal standards
Capability to perform vehicle and equipment checks, maintain readiness, stock supplies, and report issues
Ability to maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities in a safe, clean manner, following infection control and decontamination protocols
Experience or ability to work in a fast-paced, high-impact environment with minimal supervision
Capacity to participate in training, onboarding, mentorship, and providing feedback to new staff, students, and inter-agency personnel

Responsibilities

Conduct thorough patient assessments and provide appropriate BLS care per New Jersey Statewide EMS Protocols and medical command directives, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and evidence-based care
Operate ambulances safely and professionally, demonstrating defensive driving, situational awareness, and maintaining vehicle operational status; report mechanical issues promptly
Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, responses, and transfer of care in the ePCR system; respond to quality assurance and medical oversight requests
Conduct and document vehicle and equipment checks at shift start, ensure proper stocking and working order, and report shortages or concerns
Maintain Virtua-owned medical equipment, vehicles, and facilities in a safe, clean, organized manner; follow infection control protocols and decontaminate after transports
Actively participate in training and onboarding of new staff, students, and inter-agency personnel; provide mentorship, monitor performance, and offer constructive feedback
